Armadillo
Finished size: 24” long
Paper Pattern pieces: 7
Armadillos are strange-looking animals, indigenous to the warmer parts of the New World. Shown is a 9-banded armadillo, although other species may have 6 to 13 bands. You may make as many you choose, by leaving out some of the outer bands, or by making more, narrower bands. Cording of the appropriate size is strung through each band. In reality, armadillos don’t have shells; it just looks that way. The bands are part of the body. But in this pattern, the “shell” is made separately and hand-sewn to the back of the body. Although the armadillo is a mammal, it looks scaly. Use a snakeskin print fabric if you can find one. A child would prefer a soft, cuddly fabric. They are not shaggy, so a thin pile fabric is preferable.
